Some plugins (Waves comes to mind) also tend to require me to set the buffer size a lot higher to avoid issues when recording audio. A larger buffer size or closing unnecessary apps tends to help in these situations. It can be used as standalone and as AUv3 plugin in DAWs apps. We then decided to triple it with 45 audio tracks, 3 Aux, and 81 instances of the 5 correlative Waves plugins and we were barely hitting 50 on the Logic CPU usage meter during playback. RAM usage in the task manager for this project is 2316,4 MB… Did add that information to my ticket at Waves, since it shouldnt go there while doing nothing.
In the second screenshot, you can see the average load while the project is not playing (also very high)! Nuendo is on 41% CPU usage in the task manager.
Sometimes there are dropouts even with these super secure settings! While playing, Nuendo is on 50% to 56% CPU usage. My ASIO buffer size is already set to 2048 samples, hyperthreading and ASIO guard are on (otherwise I’m not even able to start the playback and the average load and real-time peak meters are clipping!) - see the attached screen shot. Unfortunately my system / Nuendo often comes to its performance limit very fast… in this case the project has 14 VST instruments and 7 audio tracks with several plugins in the inserts (mainly Waves, FabFilter, PluginAlliance, …). I mainly do music and therefore I use more or less only VST instruments / plugins and some audio clips / tracks. I have problems with my average load of my audio-performance.
